A Passion for Parties is a stimulating program about how a love of flowers that was nurtured in childhood lead to an exciting career built around artistry with flowers. Once the career began, it grew like Topsy and was full of exciting twists and turns including a Bush inauguration, a fund-raiser for President Clinton, an event for Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, million dollar events, even a wedding for 13 people with a cat as “flower girl.”
Kathy Whalen AIFD, www.KathyWhalen.net, a Special Event and Floral Design Instructor at the New York Botanical Garden for 15 years, has been a visual event stylist and floral designer for more than 30 years. She shares her passion for parties and flowers with a lively presentation of these adventures through images, stories and music and concludes with a floral design demonstration. As a visual event stylist, Kathy brings aesthetic sensitivity and imaginative interpretation to events, and as a floral designer, she pays meticulous attention to the event’s floral design. Her signature is attention to detail. Kathy is the co-author of The AIFD Guide to Floral Design. It defines more than 3000 floral design terms and contains more than 400 illustrations and scores of charts and tables. She also has an upcoming book with co-author Hitomi Gilliam AIFD on a fresh look at judging floral design. Kathy will be taking pre-orders for anyone who wishes to purchase.
