Greer Underwood, sponsored by Liz Chehayl, spends summers in Hingham, MA from mid-May to October.  She graduated from Boston University with a BA and from Lesley College in Cambridge, MA with a Masters in Education. Greer spent 29 years teaching school, primarily in middle school. She spent several years serving as a board member of GLSEN in Boston, a non-profit organization that fights homophobia and bullying of teens. She worked in schools and through the media to combat what is now recognized as harassment. Greer also volunteered for Hope in Bloom, a local organization that planted gardens for people living with breast cancer in Boston. She is looking forward to learning about plants in southwest Florida.

Did you know . . . before she liked to dig in the dirt, Greer loved to cook. But all the rich ingredients, popular in the French cooking craze of the 80’s, didn’t sit prettily on her 5’2” frame. (Greer said that, not I!) So she wrote her own cookbook, Gourmet Light, which to her great surprise won the Best Diet Cookbook award of 1985! Where do we get copies, Greer?
