The Naples Garden Club season officially started with the November GMM. As in other years, however, many committees have been diligently working over the summer. The Flower Show Schedule, “Naples Style”, was completed over the summer and can be picked up at the December GMM if you don’t already have it. The Flower Show is all about Naples this year. There is an updated handbook so replace your old one at the December GMM.
20-year Pins
Wendy Knauer and Catherine Ware received 20-year pins at the November meeting. Wendy has served as Membership Chair, Newsletter Editor, Corresponding Secretary and chaired house hostesses for the H>. She is also known for growing over 100 different kinds of orchids. One year, Wendy’s Flower Show orchid was so large it needed a separate category of its own.
Catherine Ware is a Board member and NGC 2017-2018 President-elect. Catherine has experience as NGC President, serving a term in 2001-2003. She has also served as H> Chair, 1st VP of Programs and Education, Flower Show Chair and Year Book Chair for 8 years. She is a master gardener and on the Board of Directors of Naples Botanical Garden. Her garden on 18th Avenue South was a show stopper. Now her patio garden in Moorings Park is a must-see for new Provisionals and members who want to see how much gardening can be done on a patio.
History Minute
Linda LaRue Brown, Club Historian, spent this history minute talking about past historians who catalogued all events, workshops, House and Garden Tours and Flower Shows. NGC has been doing this since 1953. The History Book is in the Garden Club library and also on the member website under “about us”. It’s interesting to see how things have changed and remained the same. Have a look.
Workshops
Mary Pulick’s Drop In Design, like the name says, is open to last-minute attendees, but please let her know by email if you are coming. Many workshops are filled but members can sign up on a wait-list. This is definitely worth doing, as many slots do open up.
