The ability to work in a garden is an eye-opening experience for traumatized children. One of our NGC grant recipients is Youth Haven, southwest Florida’s residential emergency shelter for children, ages 6-17, who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect or abandonment.
At Youth Haven, growing and nurturing plants is a therapeutic activity. According to Jinx Liggett, Executive Director of Youth Haven, “The children enjoy both the work involved and the fact that they eat what they have grown.”
NGC has completed another successful H>. The money we receive from our tour is used to fund many worthwhile endeavors like Youth Haven. We can all feel a sense of accomplishment in working to fund these grants.
