The Naples Garden Club library has 545 books. Who knew? Well, Sue Vernia, club librarian, did. Sue has been our librarian for three years and she loves this position as she has a keen interest in both books and people.  “Ours is a ‘read-only’ library so that our books are always available to the entire club,” explains Sue.

Members can take pictures of pages with their phones or iPads, use the photocopier or just jot down notes. A loose-leaf binder, called the Book Finder, lists every book by title, author, category or subject heading.  Books are on the shelves by subject heading and then alphabetically by author. It is Sue’s observation that floral design books are the most sought after with horticulture running a close second.

Our library is located off the entry of our club office. You can easily access the library whenever there is a meeting or workshop at the office (check the NGC Events Calendar). You can also contact Sue to arrange to meet you there at svernia@aol.com.

Sue has a small budget to purchase books. The three newest additions are two books on succulents and one published by the NGC Past President’s Council, “Gathering Memories,” to commemorate Brian Holley’s years as Naples Botanical Garden Executive Director. Cash donations, designated to the library, are always appreciated. A wish list is being compiled.  A library like this is an incredible resource for our membership.
