IMG_0164It’s right in our backyard. The Fakahatchee Strand that is. It’s the wild orchid and bromeliad capital of North America. You may remember it from the best selling book THE ORCHID THIEF. Our November General Merting speaker, Mike Owen, knows the Fakahatchee Strand so well that he was the author’s guide when she wrote the book.

Mike Owen is Park Biologist for Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park. He has been working on the restoration and protection of the many species of wild orchids, bromeliads, epiphytic ferns and pepperonia that are native to our area. With 23 years of experience with epiphytes (think: the opposite of parasite) Mike is sure to have much expertise to share with Naples Garden Club.

Mark your calendar (and don’t forget to register!) for this exciting and informative program at our first General Meeting on Monday, November 7, 2016 at Buehler Auditorium at the NBG’s Kapnick Center.
