‘Irma’ the succulent gator was introduced to the membership at the November Monthly Member Meeting via both a short video showing her construction just before Hurricane Irma swept through and her appearance on the logia just outside the Buehler Room.
What the hurricane also swept was the remaining portion of the planned Idea Garden installation. The storm greatly delayed the installation of the Everglades succulent tapestry and waterscape that was to be Irma’s resting place in the Idea Garden. Our committee now has a new schedule and some slightly revised plans. More to come on that soon.
The fabulous succulent garden chair was also presented for all to see. Thanks to Sandy Lasch, Raynelle Perkins, Susan Kinkead, Tammy Schwab, Kathy Hume, Connie Willson and Sudie Minamyer for all the work they did to make this happen in time for our meeting.
Both of these special installations will be put into place in the Idea Garden very soon.
Another component of the Idea Garden Committee’s plans, the ‘Ideas à la Cart’, was also on display. The Pop Up Programs will be presented in the Idea Garden using this cart. The first program, “Succulents for the Holidays”, will be presented by Sandy Lasch, Lynne Duncan and Zaneta D’Alexander on Wednesday, December 13, at 11:30 am and again at 1:15 pm in the Idea Garden at Naples Botanical Garden.
Please check the attached ‘wish list’ of items and equipment that we still need to outfit the Ideas Cart. If you happen to have duplicates of any of these items or would just like to donate an item, there will be a wish list donation box located in the NGC classroom, where you can easily drop off your donation. The wish list donation box will also be available at our monthly membership meetings. Susan Kinkead s.kinkead@aol.com will be monitoring the box and updating the wish list. Please contact Susan if you have any questions.
If you missed seeing the Irma video, it can also be found under Idea Garden on our website, along with other pictures of the creation process.
As always, we will keep you updated on the exciting plans and progress in the Naples Garden Club’s Idea Garden.
